Koh Tao – Hidden Gem

Koh Tao is a place I didnt get to see last time i travelled Thailand, mainly due to the negative news surrounding the death of two British tourists and the company I booked through advising not to go.

However it remains a haven for tourists due to the secluded beaches and beautiful view points. Koh tao also translates to Turtle Island in Thai.

I also had my travel buddy Komal still with me. We stayed in an amazing beach front hostel for one night called GoodTimes. The view of the sunset was amazing however I only lasted one out of two nights as the hostel room itself was so cramped and full of mosquitos with it being a beach hut.

We decided to move more inland to an amazing hostel called The Dearly. It was a treat to stay in a single bed rather than a bunkbed in a 6 bed female dorm room.

I rented a bike since it’s the cheapest way to see the island, although the winding roads and steep hills are terrifying! It was also a very convenient but risky way to move our 2 rucksacks from one hostel to another with Komal holding on for dear life on the back. I would recommend it to anyone it’s so much fun and you get to see so much more!

We found the most amazing remote beach, Freedom Beach. The views were incredible it can only be described as paradise. I rented a kayak and rock climbed to John Suwan viewpoint in the midday sun and looked like I’d just stepped out of a shower afterwards.

We booked a snorkelling trip for the next day, getting to visit various beaches and doing a total of 5 snorkelling activities. This trip also included the best viewpoint I have ever seen in my life (with yet another sweaty midday climb)

The friendly people you meet from all over the world along the way make the experience even more amazing. Hostels are such a great way to meet people whether its in the common area, in the bar or at the swimming pool.

This marks the end of my week with my lovely travel buddy Komal. However new week new adventure, next stop Koh Phangan for a 3 night yoga retreat.

Next adventure: Koh Phangan
