Usually Koh Phangan is renowned for its nightlife and specifically the full moon parties. I had already attended the most wild full moon party for New Years Eve so decided to opt for something VERY different.
I met a girl from New York, Meghan, in my Koh Tao hostel and we had been discussing the idea of a yoga/fitness retreat. Meghan had found a reasonable priced 3 night retreat consisting of yoga and meditation on this neighbouring island.
This resort called Wonderland offered 3 nights which included unlimited yoga and meditation classes but also consisted of eating just vegan food, anyone who knows me will know my love of chicken and also cheese! But then again I also like to try different things.

This has to be the ultimate relaxation place. The meditation classes are extremely zen and theres hammocks and soothing music everywhere. I cant say my yoga skills are very good but god loves a trier.

I spent 4 days completely lazing around. Every day consisted of meditation, yoga, the sauna followed by a free smoothie. I also spent significant time reading books in the evening (John if you’re reading this actual hardback copies). This was a vast change from the many Chang beers consumed each day before but very refreshing.

On our last night at the resort I rented a motorbike and with Meghan on the back we drove to Top Rock Bar to watch the sunset. We climbed 150 steep steps but the view was incredible! It would of been even better to see with a clear sky.

This has definitely been an eye opening experience and the benefits of a plant based diet are astounding. Will I give up cheese and chicken? Most likely not. However I feel like this was a much needed detox and I’m ready to move on…
