Koh Samui – Lamai – Turning Point

As soon as I arrived at Chill Inn Cafe and Hostel the atmosphere was a million times different to Bangkok.

I opted for a relaxing hostel this time instead of a party hostel. The view from my dorm room did not disappoint!

This hostel has the most incredible views, along with a beach front bar and a more chilled lounge area. It also serves cheap but very cheerful food.

I lugged my rucksack into my 6 bed shared dorm room not knowing what to expect. I was greeted by two girls from my room, Komal and Natalie, who were both travelling solo and were so friendly it instantly made me feel better.

Once I’d met everyone else staying there I was asked if I’d like to go to Lamai Sunday Street Market.

We bought the most delicious Pad Thai and stood watching a betting game, which is illegal in Thailand.

My first full day on the island I rented a motorbike. With zero experience off i went wobbling nervously onto the dangerous roads full of crazy drivers. Although fairly dangerous it was the most exciting thing to do, in one day I managed to get right round the entire island, being a top tourist and the views were amazing.

This day was topped off by another local night market visit and then a 20 minute walk to Rock Bar, which can only be described as spectacular. The bar is based amongst some rocks and is made to look like a treehouse. We watched a fire show and drank my favourite Thai beer, Chang.

3 nights could of easily turned into a week in this hostel!

Next adventure: Koh Samui (Chaweng Beach)
