Kampot – Return of Mad Monkey

Another severely bumpy and very dusty bus journey for 3 hours got us to Mad Monkey Hostel in Kampot. I’m not usually a fan of these kind of party hostels cause they’re sometimes too wild even for me!

This one however was fine and had a nice pool and rented motorbikes.

The whole reason in moving from the islands and to Kampot was to be in a city for the rugby final – I wasn’t even a rugby fan until I realised how good the atmosphere was to watch it while travelling.

Of course we hunted out a sports bar and this turned into a messy day and night of too much alcohol – all fun and games though! It resulted in the girl band actually trying to become one on karaoke.

We met a lovely group of Australian boys this night too who made our time in the Mad Monkey a lot more sociable!

However travelling isn’t all about crazy nights out and we hired motorbikes to drive to the Crab Market. I would not recommend this at all I looked as though I had been working as a chimney sweep all day by the time I got back from the amount of dust and dirt on the roads!

The next day we headed for Tada Waterfall. I always love a good hike up to a waterfall to see whether you’re going to be met by beauty or just some dried out rocks. Luckily it was in our favour this time and it was beautiful!

On our last night you would think we had learnt along the way how bad hangovers can be. However with a 7am bus booked we decided to go for a final ‘family dinner’ with the Australian boys. This all started off with good intentions at a nice restaurant.

But was also very quickly followed by too many ‘Joss shots’ – which are actually only legal in 3 countries one of them being Cambodia, due to the caffeine content. Not that I actually knew that until after the entire time of being there!

This night was so so much fun and made me again realise how amazing it is to meet people at the other side of the world and create life long memories! Not that I thought this when I had to get a 3 hour bus back along a bumpy road and a flight after 2 hours sleep.

Cambodia you have some very beautiful places but unfortunately you are just too dusty for me to be able to handle. NEXT STOP BALI.
